Tony Phillips commenced his counselling work in 1996 working in various voluntary organisations whilst completing the Certificate and Diploma in Counselling at the University of Wales (Swansea) in 1997.
My counselling work followed on from a successful career in retail management and marketing both as an employee and employer. Adytum was set up in 1996 to provide a totally confidential, safe, comfortable and caring environment to which people can bring those issues that are troubling them. Within my private practice I work with individuals, couples and groups of all ages, ranging from children and young people to adults. All issues are covered in the work that I do from depression, stress, bereavement, relationship issues, trauma, low self esteem, sexual abuse and other issues which are totally unique to each individual. I offer an assessment interview to each client where the client can find out whether they will be comfortable sharing their issues with me. If for any reason a client has issues that I do not feel competent to help with then I will always endeavour to find an alternative avenue for them to explore.
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). I have worked for some years with Victim Support in Swansea and I am also the coordinator of the Swansea Counselling Service. I have undertaken training in many specialist areas including, rape, murder, domestic abuse and post traumatic stress. I am bound by the Codes of Ethics and Practice of the BACP.
Adopting a person centred approach is central to my therapeutic work. It is important for clients to explore their own avenues and arrive at their own solutions to the issues that confront them. It is not for me to use my own life story to address another person's problems! I have an ongoing commitment to training and my work is supervised both in peer group support and as an individual.
Along with my wife Sue, who is a qualified aromatherapist, we are also specialist foster carers for difficult to place young people. This gives me a particularly good insight into some of the issues that young people face today. I have also three children of my own - two sons, grown up and who now live away from home and a daughter of 21 who has just finished at University.
Jayne Tasker started her counselling work in 1999 whilst completing a Diploma in Counselling at the University of Wales (Swansea) and has since worked in a variety of settings. Her work has included time with projects supporting the elderly and with adults who are mentally, physically and emotionally challenged. She also works closely with clients who have alcohol and drug related issues. She is a Reiki practitioner with the Cancer Information & Support Service and has worked with weight loss issues. Her voluntary work includes being a counsellor with the Swansea Counselling Service. Jayne works in a client centred way with extensive experience with children's counselling and has worked with Adytum since 2003.
David Lloyd-Brown started his counselling work in 1999 whilst completing his Diploma at the University of Wales (Swansea). He has worked for most of his professional career with the Department of Work and Pensions specialising in working with, amongst others, young people who are in need of support whilst they attempt to get into employment. This support work has led him to work closely with agencies such as Career Wales, the Bays Project and the Youth Offending Team. David has extensive experience, whilst working with the Samaritans, of a whole range of emotional and mental health issues that face many people in the world that we live in today. David also works in very much a client centred way which allows people to arrive at their own solutions to their problems.
